In 2007, 6 cars have been stolen at either hotels or
ball fields. About the same amount were forced
into which lead us to believe that the tournament
had been targeted.
The Montreal International Fastpitch Challenge
took this threat seriously and some safety
measures will be put in place as of 2008. These
safety measures were tested in August 2007
during another softball event in Montreal and no
incidents have been reported.
Safety of the participants and fans is a priority.
Therefore, the following measures will be observed:
July 3rd - 6th 2008

1- Ball fields
Only parks that offer a closed parking area will be used. Gates will be set up and a
volunteer will be securing the area with a ticketing system. The secured area will be
opened one hour prior to the first game until 30 minutes after the last game of each
day. It will be marked in the tournament program to advise the teams and fans
where to park.
2- Hotels
Less hotels will be available to the teams. Hotels with a gate system will be
prioritized. A guard will be securing the parkings 24 hours a day from Wednesday
3:00 pm (July 2nd) to Sunday 11:00 am (July 6th). Teams planning to arrive prior
to Wednesday at 3:00 pm or leaving after Sunday 11:00 am will have to stay at the
Holiday Inn Pointe-Claire for extended security.
3- Sightseeing in Montreal
Although there have not been many incidents reported while sightseeing, we still
recommend that you bring with you a Club bar or similar security device simply to
dissuade possible threats on your vehicle.
Important notice: Security device such as Lo-Jack (USA) and Boomerang
(Canada) are not working cross border. These companies are currently working to
upgrade their technology but the old analog device of Lo-Jack will not be working in
Canada. We recommend that you verify with your Lo-Jack dealer to confirm.
